vintage vendredi: kubrick's new york

.

Before Stanley Kubrick was a coolio director, he worked as a photojournalist for Look magazine.

Kubrick’s striking black and white images of 1940s New York City — which were often shot on the sly, his camera concealed in a paper bag with a hole in it — hint at the dark beauty and psychological drama of his later creative output.

  1. I didn't know this about him, but these images explain a lot about his cinematic style.

  2. I didn't know that Stanley Kubrick worked as a photographer either! I've found that a lot of my favourite directors started out as photographers though.
